Dr Ken Shuttleworth
Ken Shuttleworth is the founder of Make Architects and a former partner at Foster and Partners. Set up in 2004, Make is a different kind of architecture practice; an employee-owned firm pursuing a democratic design process that values everyone’s input. With studios in London, Hong Kong and Sydney they provide architecture, interior and urban design services from concept to completion.
At Make, everything they do is supported by a desire to make sure the spaces they create play a significant role in positively shaping the way people live. They passionately believe that architecture should go beyond pure functionality and make people’s lives better. This belief has always been fundamental to the way they design their spaces, and it was out of this spirit of innovation and forward-thinking that the Future Spaces Foundation was born.
Ken maintains a firm commitment to education and regularly lectures at architecture schools in the UK and abroad. He has received Honorary Doctorates from De Montfort University, The University of Westminster, the University of Nottingham and the University of East London, as well as an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. He was CABE commissioner from 2002 to 2011 and Chair of the Design Review Panel. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the Government Advisory Group on Professional and Business Services.
